‍‍I am very proud of what my colleagues have accomplished over the last few years in establishing the Graduate Programs in Sustainability at Wake Forest University. Throughout the years, we have stayed true to our mission of educating the next generation of leaders in sustainability and enhancing their opportunities to work where they can be most effective.

With its inception, the Sustainability Graduate Program has expanded Wake Forest’s commitment to sustainability by creating opportunities for faculty members to direct their teaching and scholarship toward sustainability-related topics. This multidisciplinary program seeks to strengthen collaboration within Wake Forest as well as the greater community of businesses, government agencies, and non-government organizations.

The foundation of the Sustainability Graduate Program seeks to:

• Prepare students as the next generation of sustainability leaders in world-class organizational settings. To aid our leaders, we have established local and global partnerships, incorporated numerous experiential learning opportunities, and crafted an active career enhancement approach. Our graduates are working with not-for-profits, for-profits, and government agencies — some have even gone on to pursue other advanced degrees.
• Build an international reputation for sustainability education and research. Students from Brazil, Italy, Peru, the Middle East, and across the United States are currently enrolled or are graduates of the program.
• Work to add further value to the Wake Forest Center for Energy, Environment, and Sustainability (CEES) though world-class faculty members and research opportunities for students.
• Develop a brand for being local and global. As a program, we aim to be a thought leader for environmental and social issues within the Southeastern United States, drawing from our internal knowledge base and expertise to solve worldwide problems.
